Course Descriptions and Fees

Industry Basics - History, Best Practices and Liability - $29.99
This course should be an integral part of each employee’s orientation; as it serves to provide the students with a general understanding of the public records research industry, particularly as it pertains to the services provided by NPRRA member companies. Upon successful completion, students will leave this course with:

·         Knowledge of what constitutes a public record, document types, storage and access variables

·         An ability to distinguish personal property from real property

·         A working understanding of many state and federal regulations, along with NPRRA’s 'best practices' recommendations designed to help companies remain compliant with these government directives

·         An understanding of certain potential liabilities and how to avoid them, with particular focus on the unauthorized practice of law; these concepts are essential yet not easily instilled in those new to the industry

·         A good, functional understanding of the industry, why it is here, who it serves and the primary services provided

·         The ability to better serve the NPRRA member company with which they are employed and its clients

UCC Basics - $29.99
An overview of searching and filing within the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) system presented in a historical context, this course is designed to maximize a student’s understanding of the UCC world, including Revised Article 9 and the changes that brought it to its current form. Special attention is given to certain more complex concepts that UCC searchers and filers must be aware of in order to be effective in handling client requests regarding UCC financing statements. Highlights include:

·         In depth discussion of common industry terminology, demystifying concepts such as active, lapsed, effective, terminated, perfected and many others

·         Discussion of national UCC forms, current and past

·         Model Administrative Rules and where they fit into actual practice

·         Naming conventions, sufficiency of debtor name and what makes a name “seriously misleading”

·         History of Article 9 revisions (RA9)

·         Changes brought about by the 2010 amendments to RA9

·         Where to search, where to file

·         What constitutes filing and effectiveness

·         Role of the filing office

·         Other liens found in UCC indices and how they affect searching

·         Filings with extended periods of effectiveness

·         and more!

Many NPRRA members make this course the first tool in their UCC training arsenal, but it is also a great means of refreshing knowledge for those that have been around the UCC block. Many of the concepts covered here may come up infrequently, making it difficult to be sure staff is ready for and will recognize them, and as well as handle them correctly once they are found and recognized.
